Dr. Liu Dong founded Andao Pharmaceuticals in 2015 and currently serves as the Chairman and CEO. He received his Bachelor of Pharmacy and Master of Biopharmaceutical degrees from Shandong University, and his PhD in Pharmacology from Ocean University of China. He completed his postdoctoral training at the Max Planck Institute for Neuroscience in Germany and previously worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of Rochester School of Medicine in the United States. In his industrial career, Dr. Liu served as Principal Investigator at Fibrogen, an innovative U.S. biotechnology company, and Senior Pharmacologist at Merck & Co, a leading global pharmaceutical firm. With over a decade of experience in global drug R&D, he specializes in pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, and toxicology, possessing comprehensive expertise in new drug discovery and translational research. As a key core developer, Dr. Liu participated in the research and development of roxadustat, a first-in-class drug for renal anemia. Approved first in China in 2019, roxadustat set a milestone for China’s innovative drug development. The underlying oxygen-sensing mechanism was awarded the 2019 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Dr. Liu has published numerous high-impact papers in top-tier journals including Nature Medicine, Nature Neuroscience, Neuron, and Circulation.

Dr. Qi Zhu has served as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Hangzhou Andao Pharmaceuticals since 2019. He graduated from Suzhou University School of Medicine with a major in clinical medicine, and completed clinical postdoctoral training at the Schepens Eye Research Institute of Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He also served as Principal Investigator (PI) and co-PI for multiple clinical trials at Harvard Medical School. With nearly 26 years of extensive experience in global clinical drug development, Dr. Zhu specializes in international multi-center clinical trials, global regulatory registration, and full-cycle clinical development of innovative drugs. He previously served as Clinical Executive Director at a leading CRO company, overseeing clinical trial operations and FDA regulatory submissions. Dr. Zhu spent 12 years as Global Clinical Development Lead at Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) headquarters and Lantheus, a listed company spun off from BMS. During his tenure, he secured approvals for 3 new drugs, led the clinical development of 6 new pipeline programs, and managed the life-cycle and new indication expansion of 3 marketed products. He supervised more than 80 clinical trials from Phase I to Phase IV, and completed 4 new drug marketing applications (NDA/sNDA/MAA) and 3 investigational new drug applications (IND). As a Senior Medical Officer at Baxter International, Dr. Zhu led the global clinical development of ONIVYDE, achieving successful marketing approvals in the U.S. and EU markets. He possesses comprehensive capabilities in global clinical development, regulatory strategy and commercialization of innovative drugs.

Dr. Xu Qiang is a Partner at Decheng Capital. He joined the firm in 2011 and leads investment activities across biopharmaceuticals, molecular diagnostics, medical devices, healthcare services and agritech sectors. Dr. Xu currently serves on the boards of directors of Kind Pharmaceutical, GYT Healthcare Services, IMPACT Therapeutics, KeChow Pharma, BCFoods and Shenyi Bio. He boasts extensive hands-on experience in the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical industries. Prior to joining Decheng Capital, Dr. Xu worked as a scientist at Bayer Pharmaceuticals, Scios (a Johnson & Johnson company) and Pan Pacific Pharmaceuticals, and later held the role of Vice President of R&D at Aos Biopharma in the United States. As Principal Investigator, he spearheaded multiple research projects funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Xu earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Agronomy from Kansas State University and completed his postdoctoral fellowship focusing on biochemistry and signal transduction at the University of California, Berkeley. His academic output includes 30 peer-reviewed scientific publications, 11 research invention patents, and over 50 conference papers and presentations delivered at academic symposia.

Dr. Shaojiang Deng has served as Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) of Hangzhou Andao Pharmaceuticals since 2020. He earned his PhD in Organic Chemistry from the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and completed his postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School and the University of California, San Francisco. With extensive expertise in organic synthesis, drug research and development, and pharmaceutical production, Dr. Deng is proficient in the full industrial chain from basic biological research and early drug discovery to product launch. Previously, he worked as a Senior Research Scientist at FibroGen, an innovative U.S. biotechnology company, and received multiple corporate research awards for his outstanding work. During his doctoral studies, Dr. Deng participated in a research project that won the 2010 National Natural Science Award (Second Class). He has published numerous high-quality papers in top international journals including the Journal of the American Chemical Society and holds a number of technical patents, demonstrating solid academic attainments and comprehensive industrial R&D capabilities.

Mr. Song Gaoguang joined Northern Light Venture Capital in 2016. Prior to that, he worked in the Pharmacology Department and Strategic Research Department of Shutaishen (Beijing) Biopharmaceutical Co., Ltd. He possesses profound insights into China’s pharmaceutical industry, with extensive experience in corporate strategic planning, business development execution, and clinical drug registration filings. Mr. Song holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Peking Union Medical College. His investment portfolio and post-investment management responsibilities cover Zaijing Pharmaceuticals, Belief Therapeutics, Yidao Bio, NGGT, Teon, Micotaut and other enterprises.
